Natural relief for Fibromyalgia pain - The N:rem sleep system review

Being a Qualified Complementary Therapist who then developed Fibromyalgia I am often asked what I recommend as a natural relief from fibromyalgia pain?

People always want a herb or therapy to be recommended so often seem confused when I waffle on about posture, shoes, sleeping, what bra they wear, mattress on their bed.

I am a massive advocate for natural healing outside of pharmaceuticals when possible but unlike some, I fully recommend both conventional and natural  methods to work together. Viewing illness holistically is what I am best at. Many people are happy to consume large amounts of pain killers for back pain when the problem is simply poor posture and a better bra!

People need to adapt their lifestyle and make modifications when they become ill. You need to strip everything within your utopia bare and think how this has an effect on your health and well-being.

A good mattress and an adequate amount of sleep are paramount to life with chronic pain. I was, therefore, delighted to review a new sleep system specifically designed for people with chronic pain.

I have been given this product as part of a product review through the chronic illness bloggers network   Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.

N:rem is a tailor made sleep system designed specifically for people who suffer from pain .

Okay, so this is a bed mattress big deal? {This is what I wrongly thought!}

This sleep system is unique because it can be modified to suit your own specifications. Everybody's pain is different and located in different regions of their body. A standard mattress will always fail someone with chronic pain as the density of support is uniform throughout the surface area of the bed, a person with localised pain required the density to be adapted.

The N:rem sleep system is made up of five reflex foam tablets:
  • Two super soft
  • One soft
  • One medium
  • One firm
The tablets are placed on your bed in accordance with the location of the pain.

I have fibromyalgia and so my pain is widespread and varies according to many things such as activity, stress, weather, to name but a few. To give this mattress the best optimal testing I first done a small simple log of what pain was waking me most during sleep.

For me, it was lower back pain that was most troublesome at this time.

The mattress is made up of blocks (tablets as they call them) that are placed on top of your existing mattress. Each tablet is 12cm deep but the density is different.

After reading the enclosed leaflet I opted for super soft/firm/supersoft/soft/medium support.

The tablets had a strong chemical "New" smell at first and I was worried that this would be an issue for me as I suffer from chronic migraines. I lay the tablets on the bed and left the room to air with the windows wide open.

After a few hours, we made the bed and waited for the evening so I could test the benefits. (at this stage I was not rushing to write a super review as I still believed it was "simply another mattress")

The first thing I noticed was how warming the tablets were. Like many people I love finding the cold part of the bed, the cold side of the pillow, so would I get used to this new warming effect? But then I must have fallen asleep and my cold versus warming debate was lost.

It was really nice...no better than nice..it was comforting like a baby swaddled in its mother's loving embrace.

Being so impressed so early was not on my agenda as it would make me sound like a blogger that is nothing more than a PR pleaser. But I really did notice a difference from the first night!

Maybe I was just tired the first night?
Maybe my tramadol was working more effectively?
Maybe I am just balancing the day better so sleep felt more comfortable?

Thirty plus sleeps later I still maintain my first opinion.
It is amazing!

If you are looking for a miracle/a cure then no appliance will impress you. The best you can get with a chronic pain illness is the relief. This is what this sleep system has given me.

I always wake around 3am after a few years I have begun to accept that this is now my normal. To balance this I now go to bed much earlier and for me, this is working well. It would be unrealistic for me to expect that I would now sleep through and get a full eight hours unbroken sleep.

Since using the N:rem I have noticed a massive improvement in the overall comforting factor of being in bed. I lay there in complete bliss as I fall asleep. When I wake the comfort remains. I no longer look for pillows to place strategically under the arch of my spine or under my leg joint, I have it all in the N;rem.

I no longer feel the need to get out of bed to find solace and comfort in a hot water bottle, a cup of tea and more pain relief. I have not needed any additional pain relief during the early hours beside my usual dosage before bed.

This for me is what makes the N:rem  so wonderful. My pains are still there, I have a chronic illness remember but I am sleeping so much more comfortable. I often find myself now going to bed just for the comfort and relief it gives my aches and pains.

So what is the downside?

The initial smell was a worry but that soon went.

The tablets look like they will move around but after the first night, you discover that they do not at all. Between sheet changes, I have not needed to adjust them once.

The heat retaining property of the foam may be troublesome for some people. The reflex foam does not heat as much as a memory foam mattress or topper. As I stated above I soon switched from a cold spot lover to a bliss seeker. I have been told that the mattress and topper when purchased, comes with a cotton cover and once this is in place they feel like any other mattress.

The only thing negative I can say about this sleep system is the cost. On first glance, it appears to be a very expensive addition to an already functional bed. If budget is not an option for you then I hope you too find it to be an asset to your sleep and rest schedule.

If you are part of a family that is not so able to splash out then do not worry. I always feel the mark of a caring company is one that considers all within society. You can buy the mattress or topper as part of a £1 per night payment plan. {yes, I too think that is super!}

Apart from this, my only remaining negative is a week without it when I go on holiday. I have even considered bringing another case as I don't want to be seven full periods of sleep without it!

You can purchase the system as a full mattress or as a topper to go on top of a pre-existing matress. (This is the version I have) I presume the difference is simply to suit your needs. The topper tablets are no different in any way to that of the mattress all you receive extra with the mattress option is a 2,000 spring mattress for added comfort and bounce. I prefer to not part with the already firm orthopedic mattress in situ.

Costs vary based upon the size of the bed.
(Although the tablets are simply laid side by side to create a double)

Prices for a single bed are:

Full mattress

  • Full price £395 (at the time of writing)
  • £1 a night plan is £30 a month for 15 months

Topper

  • Full price £199 (at the time of writing)
  • £1 a night plan is £30 a month for 7 months
Being a qualified complementary therapist posture and natural methods for pain management are my forte. I would wholeheartedly recommend this as an essential purchase, not a luxury item. It is definitely a wonderful investment for anyone who suffers from pain.

The company also offers a 90 day trial period for the mattress and the topper comes with a 30 night trial period for you to decide in the comfort of your own home.

If you have any questions the company are super friendly so please do not hesitate to contact them.

So what are your thoughts?
Would this be something you would consider?

If I woke one day and mine had vanished would I purchase one in its replacement?

YES..YES! definitely, as I said this is now on the essentials list. I do not believe in suffering when there is something that could ease the pain.

Love and gentle hugs to you all
