Review: Dr Organic Harmful Chemical Free Deodorant

I was recently given this product and asked my honest opinion as a health therapist, woman, and Mother.

Dr. Organic deodorant is an organic and harmful chemical free product that boasts of containing no Parabens or SLS. The company utilises only the finest natural and organic raw materials wherever possible. Wherever an organic ingredient cannot be utilised a sustainable natural or naturally derived alternative is used.

Please be assured this is not another scaremongering post about the harmful effects of parabens upon breast tissue.

Firstly what are Parabens and SLS?

Parabens are widely used preservatives used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. SLS stands for sodium lauryl sulphate and is a substance, like detergent, which enables a liquid to foam.

A decade or so ago Parabens and SLS became the evils of skincare following a study published in 2004 detected parabens in breast tumours. The study discussed the weak oestrogen properties of parabens and the effects of oestrogen on breast tissue. Many dispute this as substantial evidence as the study left so many unanswered questions and never included the paraben levels within the normal breast tissue.

The impact of this study published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology was massively overblown.

"Breast cancer is known to have many risk factors, and it is unlikely that any single use chemical would be a dominant risk factor."(NHS)

So then why switch to an organic chemical free deodorant?

Basically, it is a matter of choice, irritant effect upon your skin, love of natural ingredients and environmental issues. Our natural environment provides us with a huge number of plants, herbs, vitamins and minerals to ensure health and vitality, many like myself believe we have no need to use chemicals (sometimes)

Although I an aromatherapist,  a member of Greenpeace and also a huge advocate for natural products I am not completely chemical free.

I have extremely sensitive skin so I was delighted with what Dr Organic offers as harsh chemicals can sting and irritate me. How can something fail me that has Tea tree, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E listed in its bioactive and organic ingredients?

This product is an antibacterial deodorant liquid roll-on formulation. It claims to "neutralise odour whilst inhibiting odour causing bacteria."

I have waited a while to review this product as I have olfactory issues, I lose my sense of smell. Oh wow, it was so worth the wait! The natural aroma from this deodorant is so fresh and invigorating it was like a shower to my nostril.

In order to give a full and honest review, I have been using this product for a few months now.
  • The coverage via the roll-on is great, there is never dry patches whilst rolling and the ball never sticks or becomes clogged.
  • Gave me complete odour free protection.
  • Washed off easily in the bath leaving no sticky residue.
  • No white marks on dark clothing.
  • Does not stain white clothing.
  • One bottle seems to last for ages.

Would I recommend this product to a friend?

Most definitely, the only downside is convincing them that the price is justified (£5.79) as it is treble what a usual roll on deodorant is. But if like me you want irritation free skin then the little extra is so worth it.

Let me know if you use this product and what you think?

Love and gentle hugs
